Hi! We’re so glad you dropped by! Here at the Gluten Free Homestead, we’ve been cooking and living gluten free for the past ten years. Our family adopted a gluten free diet when three of us tested positive for non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) and two with wheat allergies. Whether you’ve just started following a gluten free diet or have been eating gluten free for years, we hope you will find lots of new recipes to try.
Our mission doesn’t just stop with sharing our healthy and great-tasting gluten free recipes. Over the years we’ve discovered that simply substituting gluten containing ingredients with gluten free ingredients is not enough. We all have adopted a diet based on whole foods (organic whenever possible) and follow a disciplined fitness and rest routine. Here on the blog, we share what we have learned about gluten free living, health, fitness and the abundant life.
The Gluten Free Homestead is run by John, Barbara, and Nicole who have a passion for healthy living. Special thanks to Michael (our iPhone® App developer) and Peter (another taste tester and photographer)! A little bit more about John, Barbara, Nicole, Michael, and Peter below:
Barbara is our resident chef and cooks up most of the gluten free recipes here at the Homestead. When three members of the Homestead tested positive for non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS), Barbara quickly transformed her kitchen into a gluten free zone, even making sure to purchase two separate toasters: one for gluten-free products and one for wheat. This developed into a passion for making gluten free food taste good. The kitchen is now 100% gluten free.
John has a doctorate in podiatric medicine and is particularly interested in sports medicine and fitness. His articles focus on health and gluten free living. Read John’s story here: his journey to recover from the effects of several chronic health issues (CFS, NCGS and adrenal fatigue).
Nicole is one of our writers, the official editor, and the official webmaster here at the Homestead. Her love for designing websites has spilled over into the world of cooking. She enjoys plating the food seen in our photographs and also coming up with new recipes. Nicole is not gluten intolerant, but she is allergic to wheat. She will be sure to test all recipes to see if they really are as good as their gluten counterparts. We hope you will join her in exclaiming, “I can’t believe it’s gluten free!” When not visiting the Homestead, Nicole spends most of her time at http://nicolebianchi.com and http://inkwellscholars.org.
Michael tested positive for non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) ten years ago. While it was difficult switching to a completely new diet, he has to agree that the right recipe can transform gluten free ingredients into foods that are truly delicious. Michael is the iPhone® App developer in residence and also an official taste tester at the Homestead. When not trying new gluten free foods, Michael enjoys reading, studying history, and many other cool and amazing hobbies that would take too long to list.
Peter has taken over as our dedicated food photographer here at the Homestead. He is fascinated by the art of photography, enjoys studying new techniques and his hobby has progressed into masterful food photography. Patience, creativity and a passion to capture the most tempting shots are behind Peter’s style. Peter is not gluten intolerant, but our gluten free living is fine with him because everything tastes so good.
